Remo Day Festival Will Enhance Even Development - Otunba Okunola
The SSA to Ogun State Governor on Culture and Tourism has identified the annual Remo Day Festival as an event that will bring about even development,
He made this known during an interview with journalists in Abeokuta, Otunba Olaide Okunola who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer Citizen Hotel Sagamu, spoke on the annul Remo Day Festival and its significance to the people of the region, Excerpts.
Q: In summary your profile sir?
A: I had my primary and secondary education respectively in Ibadan and after graduating in flying colours I was privileged to gain admission into the polytechnic of Ibadan.
I worked briefly at Lafarge plc before venturing into hospital business and further made myself avaliable to the service of the people by joining active politics. God on my side I am one of the political appointees in the state.
Q: When we talk of the annual Remo Day Festival what does it means to you and what are its significance to the development of Remo Division?
A: There is no doubt about the fact that in Africa, we are very rich in culture and tradition and we must continue to strive towards promoting our tradition across board.
The annual Remo Day Festival is a cultural heritage which has gone a long way to exhibit our diverse culture and tradition by extension promote unity of purpose.
The socio- economic benefits are numerous, as it will promotes hospitality businesses, by increasing its patronage from large number of tourists that would trooped in their large number to grace the event, entertainment industry also benefit immensely while market men and women smile to the bank.
The government of the day is doing everything possible to ensure that our culture and tradition do not go into extinction, by promoting our various Festive day such as; Ojude Oba Festival, Lisabi Day Festival Remo Day Festival, Orona Day among others.
The Governor must be commended for his initiative at preserving our culture example is the renovated Olumo Rock which has further encouraged tourism activities.
Q: What is your message to Kabiyesi?
A: Alayeluwa is the custodian of culture and tradition and since ascending the throne he provide the required administrative capability required to upscaled Remo Division and we must continue to support him in prayer that God will uphold him, enrich him with wisdom and understanding as he celebrates many more year in sound health for region and sounding round on the throne of his forefather.
